During my Red Stable residency in Dublin, I walked through the crowds in the city center listening to the special Irish sounds in the talk of people passing by.
During a lecture at the arts department of Dublin Institute for Technology, I invited some students to participate in a performative installation with fragments of speech from the street.
Four participants-observers were walking through the crowds in the city center being connected by mobile phone with four participants-reproducers in the gallery. When the observers pick up a sentence or a fragment of a sentence they repeat it directly in the phone, especially highlighting the intonation or dynamics of the fragment. The reproducers in the gallery are seated on chairs and use headphones to be able to concentrate on what they hear. For exactly one hour they keep reproducing their input aloud for an audience.
