Collection
My contribution to the exhibition, for which each artist was asked to contribute a new work, has as it's starting point the names and dates of works of art from the museums own collection. The collection was presented to me as a computer print-out on 8 A-4 pages. I asked 8 staff members of the museum each to copy one page, with a pencil onto the same wall. Realization. A slide of grid lines is projected onto the wall as a guide, after which the first person writes a layer. Then the grid, moved slightly, is projected over this. The second person writes a layer on this, over the previous layer, and so on. Because each subsequent writer automatically writes more heavily, a grayish patch arises on the wall, in which names, titles, registration numbers and dates of production and acquisition of the works are partially to be seen. Dimensions approximately 2.5 x 3 m. The wall is repainted white again after the exhibition.
