dubbele spiraal 1 - double spiral 1
The exhibition space of Lokaal 01 has two middle points in the form of two cast iron pillars. For the performance he space is completely blacked out. Ricardo and myself are dressed in black and on our heads we are wearing a set of battery powered halogen lights. Each of us stands at a pillar, the audience is situated around the edges of the space. In the dark, hanging from the hand of one arm, we rotate in circles as quickly as possible, in opposite directions to each other. At this point, simultaneously, we switch on our lights. The projected beams fly around the walls of the space. From this point on a process begins of increasing the turning circle and at the same time slowing down as gradually as possible, whereby the hanging goes over into walking in circles. There is a constant focus on this process and on that of the other performer. After about 7 minutes our circles meet each other and still later intersect. After about 15 minutes the circles are so large that we are walking close to the walls of the space. The speed is then much decreased and eventually we are standing still and both patches of light have come to rest on the wall somewhere in the space. Shortly thereafter we switch off our lights.
