Three performance nights about the spoken word in different art disciplines, composed by Toine Horvers, Samuel Vriezen Dante Boon and Cora Schmeiser.
A celebration of the oral tradition in the arts, in which the voices of poets, visual artists, musicians, choreographers, actors and storytellers meet. The plan for WORDS LIVE came from the observation that in Poetry International Festival Rotterdam poetry performances and visual arts are kept strictly apart, and that especially language performances from other art disciplines are absent. In the visual arts, theatre, music as well as dance examples of the use of oral/vocal language abound. Language in a more or less composed form: sound, rhythm and composition of words and sentences used in an imaginative way. Here, besides conveying information, language refers to itself, particularly, as a spatial and temporal process, thus referring very strongly to oral poetry.

Toine Horvers: Tijd (from 3 vocal sculptures 2004) Samuel Vriezen, Dante Boon, Arnold Marinissen, Toine Horvers, Cora Schmeiser. A piece for 5 performers and 5 minutes. Performers count out loud the time by the second to create an increasingly intense vocal texture.
Abner Preis: Adult children stories I
Philadelphia storyteller Preis makes up short stories around some strange characters from his sketchbook, including Hiding Heidi, Doctor Deathbreath, Timmy Teardrop......
Arf Arf: Someone said 1987 Toine Horvers, Cora Schmeiser. Three covers from a group of Melbourne artists who specialize in polyphonic text works that combine a playful experimental messiness with a ritualistic sense of structure.
Beth Anderson: Ocean motion mildew mind 1976 Cora Schmeiser, Arnold Marinissen. Coming from the tradition of John Cage, composer Beth Anderson made a change from conceptual to neo-romanticism , unproblematically celebrating the beautiful. In her early text works you can already find signs of this change.
John Cage: Aria 1958 1 Cora Schmeiser. Aria, written for singer/voice performer Cathy Berberian, is based on the principle of chance: text fragments from highly varied sources and with very different vocal characters were put together using the I Ching.

Dante Boon: Uitdrijving 2007 - 2009 for Arnold Marinissen, speaking percissionist. World premiere of a piece based on the poem 'Uitdrijving' by Hans Faverey and specifically composed for Arnold Marinissen, a performer for whom voice and percussion are intimately connected.


Daniëlle van Vree: Stand in 2009 A performance/text piece in which Daniëlle combines a written text describing the movements of people, with simultaneous projection of images of audience members and performers moving.
Inari Salmivaara: AT[TRIBUTE] TO WORDS, a lecture- performance.
Finnish dancer and choreographer, works with misicians and visual artists.
Spoken language plays an important conceptual role in her strictly organized and complex performances.

Roni Klinkhamer: Is there life on MMMmmmmm......? After many years, this colourful princess of 70s outsider performance art cannot wait to show her undiminished passion for poetry, sound, puns and a mix of impermanent materials and objects.
