Rotation was inspired by the eternal rotating movement (Galaxy) as an important metaphor in the ideas and ceremonies of the Mevlevi Sufi-order, with which I recently had very inspirational meetings in Istanbul.
In the space I mark the four directions north east south west. I stand in the middle of the space directed north. I turn slowly around my centre calling aloud the four words in the right direction, amplifying my voice with my hands. While I keep rotating and calling the words, I gradually let the words merge into each other, while at the same time I rise the pitch and lower the volume of calling. I end up making an ongoing sound of the four vowels that flow into one another, sounding softer and higher until I am not able anymore to produce any sound. In silence I keep rotating until I slow down till standing still. |
